According to Ryan Murphy of the Daily Press, Robert Griffin III’s dad, Robert Griffin, Jr. will receive 10 days of jail time for reckless speeding on I-64 in Hampton, Va.

Apparently Robert Griffin III’s dad can’t drive 55. Robert Griffin Jr. was clocked going at 115 MPH on Aug. 2nd at 6:15 a.m. in Hampton, Va., not far from his son’s practice facility with the Washington Redskins. He was pulled over near Hampton Roads Center Parkway in an area where the speed limit is 60 MPH.

Griffin’s dad pleaded not guilty to reckless speeding, but was found guilty by a judge in the Hampton District Court, sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 50 of them being suspended.

The Griffin are not having a great month of September are they. Griffin was benched by the Redskins head coach Jay Gruden in favor of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Washington is 1-1 playing strong defense and running the football with authority with their two-back tandem of rookie Matt Jones and Alfred Morris.

Following his conviction, Robert Griffin, Jr. will serve 10 days of jail time on five consecutive weekends, beginning next weekend. Griffin’s arrest stems back to the first week of Washington’s training camp.

Perhaps the lingering charges stemming from his father’s arrest hurt Griffin’s play during the preseason, leaving Jay Gruden no choice but to bench his inherited franchise quarterback. It’s not secret that Gruden and Griffin did not see eye to eye in their first season together last year. Gruden wanted to go with Cousins as his starter but did not have eccentric owner Daniel Snyder’s approval to go in that direction until this preseason.

Should the Redskins struggle in the coming weeks, Gruden will have no choice but to go with Griffin or Colt McCoy at quarterback. For now, Cousins remains the starter with McCoy as the primary backup.
