DeMarco Murray expected to play for Eagles in Week 3

According to ESPN’s Ashley Fox, Philadelphia Eagles running back DeMarco Murray will play on Sunday against versus the New York Jets.

DeMarco Murray will play on Sunday versus the New York Jets after dealing with a sore hamstring stemming from the Philadelphia Eagles practice on Wednesday.

It has been a frustrating season thus far for the newly acquired tailback of the Philadelphia Eagles. Last year, Murray was an MVP candidate and made the 2014 All-Pro Team as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

In two games with the Eagles, Murray has carried the football 21 times for a meager 11 yards and 1 touchdown. He has been more of a factor in the Eagles’ confused offense in the receiving game with 9 catches for 64 yards and 1 touchdown. Naturally, Philadelphia is 0-2 facing a formidable New York Jets defense in Week 3.

Many thought that the familiarity with college roommate quarterback Sam Bradford in the Philadelphia backfield would expedite the learning curve of Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly’s up-tempo offense. That has not been the case as both players have struggled mightily against the Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys in the first two weeks.

DeMarco Murray may want to push through this sore hamstring to get both his game and the Philadelphia Eagles offense back to good. Averaging 0.52 yards per carry and 5.5 yard per game is a far cry from what the 2014 All-Pro accomplished last season. Murray eclipsed the 100 yard threshold a dozen times in 2014, rushing for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns in his last season with Dallas.

Murray and the Eagles’ offense will likely have a tough time in the Meadowlands when they take on the New York Jets Sunday. New York leads the NFL is defensive points allowed at 8.5 points per game and forced turnovers at 10.

With DeMarco Murray’s past issues with ball security, Philadelphia could very well end up in a bad 0-3 hole. Only three times has a team started out 0-3 and made the playoffs since 1990. The last to accomplish that was the 1998 Buffalo Bills. This is a must win game for the Eagles, so that probably has a great deal to do with Murray being expected to play on Sunday, despite hamstring concerns stemming from Wednesday’s practice.
