Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant says the pain is going away in his injured foot.
The Dallas Cowboys have hit a stroke of unprecedented bad luck, losing star wide receiver Dez Bryant and quarterback Tony Romo in back-to-back weeks to injury. There were also reports that tight end Jason Witten was injured and struggling to walk.
Bryant was reportedly going to be out 10-12 weeks after undergoing a bone graft, a timeline he refuted. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to be embracing Bryant’s optimism and relayed some information he received first hand from Bryant regarding his injury.
“We want him keeping in shape and keeping all the ligaments around it in shape,” Jones said, via ESPN.com’s Todd Archer. “He can. I just had a great visit with him. The pain is going away by the day and that’s important. His procedure gives me a lot of confidence that he will be able to have a positive recovery.”
Still, the specific injury Bryant suffered makes it unreasonable to think that he is going to return earlier than six weeks, even if Bryant has some Herculean-like ability to heal.
With Romo out, the Cowboys need to calm Bryant down and let him know there is no need to rush back out onto the field. If the Cowboys make the playoffs it will be rather miraculous, no need risking injury to your star player, especially after signing him to a five-year, $70 million contract.
