Mark Wahlberg made Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia complete by dropping a ‘Go Eagles’ line in front of the religious leader
Mark Wahlberg is not from Philadelphia. He played Vince Papale in the movie Invincible, but otherwise the prolific actor is a die-hard sports fan. However, that didn’t stop him from embracing the city of Philadelphia in the most Philly way possible while speaking in front of Pope Francis on Saturday night.
Wahlberg was serving as the host of the Festival of Families event where the Pope was in attendance. Wahlberg was introducing former Philadelphia Eagles running back Herb Lusk as the next speaker when the actor, in front of God, the Pope, and everyone else, dropped in a classic “Go Eagles:”
Even if he’s not from Philadelphia, that’s the best possible way to welcome Pope Francis to the City of Brotherly Love. Saying “Go Eagles” pretty much explains what has to be on the mind of at least half the people in the city hoping to see the Pope during his visit.
In other news, Eagles fans are probably hoping that Pope Francis can bring some blessing upon their team over the next 15 weeks of the regular season. Judging by how they’ve looked in their 0-2 start, they’re going to need some kind of divine intervention.
