A junior college referee was ejected for throwing a punch, throwing a clipboard at a coach

You never know what you’re going to see in junior college football. JUCO games could hold some crazy experimental strategies. JUCO games could have the next Heisman Trophy candidate before he makes it to a major program. JUCO games could have some erratic behavior. Or they could just feature a referee throwing a punch at one of the coaches.

The latter is exactly what happened on Saturday in a matchup between East Mississippi Community College and Itawamba Community College. Things got so heated between one official and EMCC head coach Buddy Stephens that the ref swung at Stephens and threw a clipboard at him. WCBI-TV Sports Director Robby Donoho was at the game and delivered his take of the events via Twitter:

So a heated moment between Stephens and the game admin about staying off the field led to the official throwing his clipboard and throwing a punch; that seems totally rational, right?

Donoho has this all on video, but that video has not gone public yet. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I can’t wait to see it. The mere idea of an official trying to fight a coach seems entirely too surreal to believe without seeing it in action.
