Tennessee Volunteers vs. Florida Gators
The Vols and Gators are facing off on Saturday in what is sure to be a fierce battle between perennial rivals. The undefeated Gators have won this match up 25 times, while the Vols trail in the series with 19 victories to date.
Much is at stake for the Tennessee squad which has failed to live up to off-season hype, allowing giving up 433 yards against Bowling Green and losing to Oklahoma in a humiliating second-quarter collapse.
The Gators, on the other hand, are undefeated at 3-0. Quarterback Treon Harris is suspended for Saturday’s game, so redshirt freshman Will Grier will start. The Gators have been very strong on the ground this year, so Grier will have options. If the Vols defense continues to struggle, the relatively inexperienced Gators quarterback could manage to lead his team to a high-yardage game– and victory. This scenario is even more likely when you consider that start Vols cornerback Jalen Tabor is suspended for Saturday.
The Volunteers struggle not only defensively, but also when it comes to their passing offense. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs was 13 of 31 for 125 yards against Oklahoma. The Volunteers offense needs to perform much better than that if they are want to have any chance of coming out of the game victorious.
This is a make-or-break year and a make-or-break game for Tennessee coach Butch Jones is in his third year. A win and a change in momentum could position Tennessee to be a formidable force in the SEC, while a loss could be a sign of trouble.
