UCLA dominated from start-to-finish against Arizona on the road

Anu Solomon and the Arizona Wildcats got off to a quick start in their big-time Pac-12 matchup at home in Arizona Stadium against the UCLA Bruins. Solomon hit Nate Phillips with a quick strike for a touchdown, but it was all downhill for the Wildcats after that. Josh Rosen and the UCLA Bruins answered quickly, Solomon and the Arizona offense coughed up the football a couple of times, and then Solomon had to leave the game after taking a blow to the head from an opponent’s knee.

However, Solomon’s absence wasn’t as big of a factor as the fact that Arizona simply couldn’t contain Rosen, Paul Perkins, and the Bruins offense. Even with the return of star linebacker Scooby Wright, the Wildcats defense looked overmatched for much of the night. Rosen was able to throw the ball with efficiency and without turning the ball over, looking like a different quarterback than in their close call last week, and the running game continually found its way across the goal line. In the end, it wasn’t much of a contest as the Bruins continued an undefeated 4-0 start while the Wildcats drop to 3-1 on the year after the loss.

Three Stars

1. Josh Rosen was huge for the Bruins, especially coming off of a poor performance last week. The quarterback threw for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and (most importantly) didn’t turn the ball over on the evening. He also added his first rushing touchdown of the season.

2. Paul Perkins didn’t have a strong night in terms of yards per carry, but his three scores for UCLA were huge in keeping the Bruins in control of this big game on the road.

3. Jordan Payton was Rosen’s favorite target on the night, catching seven balls for 136 yards and finding his way into the end zone once in the rout of the Wildcats.

Highlights

Odds

The Bruins were favored by three coming into this game and it’s safe to say that they covered that by a wide margin with their monster victory. The two teams also combined to shatter the 66-point over/under set for the contest.

Next Week

UCLA will be back at home next week coming off of this big win as they will welcome the Arizona State Sun Devils to town.

Arizona will be trying to avoid consecutive losses as they go on the road to face the Stanford Cardinal next week.
