The San Francisco 49ers thought outside the box by bringing in former rugby star Jarryd Hayne. He filled the preseason with highlight reel punt returns and runs and earned a spot on the 49ers’ regular season roster.

Hayne is living up to the preseason hype and delivering in the regular season. In Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, Hayne broke off a 37-yard return to bring the ball to the 19-yard line.

Pretty solid play to deliver the 49ers a starting position inside the red zone. A couple of plays later, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick scrambled 12 yards into the end zone to score and try to narrow the gap.

The 49ers are trying to dig themselves out of a self-inflicted hole, going down 14-0 on their first two possessions when Kaepernick threw two interceptions that were each returned for touchdowns.

Trying to dig their selves out of this hole against a formidable Cardinals team won’t be easy, but Hayne delivering field position like that could help them get back in the game.
