Blake Bortles showed signs of life with a long touchdown pass to Allen Hurns
As many could have predicted, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been getting throttled by the New England Patriots in Week Three. More importantly, Jags quarterback Blake Bortles hadn’t shown much promise at all against Bill Belichick’s defense through most of the first three quarters. Midway through that third period, he finally decided to show some life.
Down 30-3 at the time and trying to get something going, Bortles made a strong throw to Allen Hurns on a go route out of the slot, threading the needle to get it to his receiver. Hurns took care of the rest, cutting past a defender and going onward into the end zone:
No one can question Bortles’ flashes of ability from time to time. That was a big throw from the young quarterback and one that takes a lot of confidence to make. Considering he had been picked off earlier in this game making a poor decision with a similar throw, it’s good to see him not be tentative.
Jaguars fans can all agree that Bortles isn’t where he needs to be yet for this team to turn it around. The important next step is that he keeps having moments like this touchdown pass and building on them to a higher level of consistency.
