C.J. Anderson cleared after concussion tests
The Denver Broncos are struggling to score points and gain yards in 2015. In fact, the offense ranks dead last through the first two weeks of the season, and now they have another hurdle to overcome. Running back C.J. Anderson has left their Sunday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions and is being evaluated for a concussion, according to Michele Tafoya of NBC.
UPDATE: Anderson has returned to the field and has been giving clearance by the medical staff, per Tafoya.
Anderson took a wicked shot in the first half and stayed down for a few moments while medical personnel overlooked him. Eventually, Anderson was able to leave the field of play under his own power before immediately going to the locker room to be looked over.
Many fantasy owners drafted Anderson in the first round thinking he would be explosive in head coach Gary Kubiak’s run-first offense. However, the Broncos’ offensive line has been a complete mess, leading to Anderson running without any open lanes.
Last year, Anderson came on to replace Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman and looked like one of the better running backs in the league. The 24-year-old in his third season out of the University of California ran for 849 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry in 2014, but things have been different thus far in 2015. In two games, Anderson has 24 attempts for 56 yards and no touchdowns.
Denver will go with Hillman for the most part while Anderson works his way back onto the field. However, the Broncos are down to one fully healthy running back with Juwan Thompson also needing to be evaluated after a helmet-to-helmet hit.
