The Denver Broncos are taking a 14-6 lead into halftime on Sunday Night Football against the Detroit Lions, thanks to a 45-yard touchdown connection between Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas.

Thomas was somehow left in one-on-one coverage against Darius Slay, who should not be left in man-to-man coverage without help over the top, ever. You can see the result, which was a horrific bit of coverage. Yes, Slay was almost able to get his hand on the ball, but he was torched off the line of scrimmage and then failed to make a play on the ball, giving Thomas an easy score.

During the individual introductions that NBC does for Sunday Night Football, Slay introduced himself to America as “Big Play Slay.” This is absolutely what most opposing offenses refer to him as.

Denver has struggled to move the ball throughout the first two weeks of the season, with the offense ranking dead last in yardage. However, the Broncos are 2-0 on the season after beating the Baltimore Ravens and then pulling off a miracle against the Kansas City Chiefs. The question is whether or not the offense can finally get rolling. While the touchdown was terrific, Manning underthrew Thomas badly. A decent corner turns that into either an incompletion or interception.

Through the first half, Manning has completed 17-of-24 passes for 195 yards with a touchdown and interception. The running game has been without much punch, with Denver rushing 10 times for 18 yards.
