The St. Louis Rams will get their first look at first round draft pick Todd Gurley in regular-season action during Week 3. After playing things close to the vest, not to mention quote conservatively, the Rams have activated Gurley to make his NFL debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Sunday’s game marks the official beginning to what could be a promising career, and the end of what has been a long, strange odyssey for Gurley.
Last year as a junior running back for the Georgia Bulldogs, Gurley tore the college football landscape a new one by rushing for 773 yards (a 154.6 ypg) and eight touchdowns in his first five games. He was then suspended by the university as the NCAA investigated allegations that Gurley had received money for signing memorabilia. After sitting for four games, he returned to rush for 138 yards and one touchdown against the Auburn Tigers before tearing his ACL late in the contest.
Gurley opted to enter the NFL and, despite the significant injury, was selected with the 10th pick by the Rams in the NFL Draft. From there, he continued rehabbing and practicing through the offseason before finally getting live game action today against Pittsburgh.
After nearly a year of working (in several different fashions) to get back on the football field and play healthily, the TGIII experience will now commence in St. Louis.
