Who is the Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback?

Next: Ben Roethlisberger Injury Update

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t needed to cycle through quarterbacks in the past, but Ben Roethlisberger’s injury has changed that. In the second half of the Steelers game in St. Louis against the Rams, Roethlisberger went down on a terrible hit to his knee that looks like it could very well end his season.

That’s yet to be determined but what we do know now is that Big Ben’s Sunday in Week 3 is over and Mike Tomlin is on to his backup quarterback.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had to think about the Steelers backup quarterback and things have changed since the last time Big Ben has been on the sidelines. Bruce Gradkowski is nowhere to be seen and Landry Jones isn’t high on the depth chart. Instead, another man is in at quarterback for the foreseeable future and as long as Roethlisberger is out.

That man is Michael Vick, who is no stranger to coming in and taking someone’s job when they get injured. You’ll remember that back in 2010 the Eagles were starting Kevin Kolb when he got injured in the first game of the season, thus allowing Vick to come in and be an MVP season.

As long as Roethlisberger is out with his injury, it’s going to be Michael Vick starting. That technically means that the new backup quarterback for the Steelers is Landry Jones.
