Bears trade LB Jon Bostic to Patriots

New England adds linebacker depth in Jon Bostic
The Chicago Bears rebuild continues. The Bears are trading players who they don’t believe fit into their new 3-4 scheme under new head coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Earlier today, the Bears traded veteran pass rusher Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers. We all knew that they aren’t done dealing as they change schemes and even more personnel. Per ESPN’s Field Yates and Jeff Dickerson, the second move the of the Bears retooling has been done. The Bears have traded linebacker Jon Bostic to the New England Patriots. The return to the Bears is a sixth-round pick.
Bostic was the Bears second round pick back in 2013 and the 50th-overall pick. He started eight of the 13 games he played in last season. He made 58 tackles for the Bears last season.
He has not yet played in 2015.
For the Patriots, they add some more depth to their linebacker corps. The Pats have Jerrod Mayo, Jamie Collins and Dont’a Hightower. Collins and Hightower have played excellent football over the first three games. The Patriots are off this week, so it could give Bostic some time to get acquainted with the playbook. Bostic could also be a factor on special teams as well.
Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer are friends and Belichick has been known to take a former Meyer player or two. Bostic played under Meyer at Florida, so I’m sure he turned to his friend to get some inside info on him.
For the Bears, it’s another draft pick they can use next year as the rebuild continues.
