The Carolina Panthers have acquired defensive end Jared Allen from the Chicago Bears.

You don’t often see NFL trades during the season, but that doesn’t meant they don’t happen. Last year we saw Percy Harvin traded in the middle of the season, and now the Carolina Panthers are rolling out a trade to try and plug some holes on defense.

According Jay Glazer from FOX Sports, the Panthers have agreed to a trade that lands them Jared Allen from the Chicago Bears.

This is a move that is clearly meant to offset the loss of Charles Johnson, who was carted off the field on Sunday’s win over the Saints and will be missing next week’s game against the Buccaneers. Allen was on a defense in Chicago that is going nowhere and this a move that the Bears can’t be upset about.

Allen is aged, he’s near the end of his career and the Bears are going nowhere with him this season. With this trade, Allen might get some more play out of the end of his career in the Panthers defense while the Bears get a draft pick out of this to add to what will probably end up as the No. 1 pick.
