Cam Newton is almost on Tom Brady’s level — apparently.

This weekend was an interesting one for Cam Newton, as he received an unexpected reality check from referee Ed Hochuli. Newton was upset after the game that Hochuli told him he wasn’t old enough to get a personal foul call swung his way on a close play.

Needless to say, this has everyone abuzz the day later, and some have takes hotter than others.

Just listen as Tony Kornheiser has a stroke on live television and seriously compares Cam Newton to Tom Brady:

Now, Kornheiser is trying to make a point here about — well, no one is really sure. Brady is a Hall of Fame quarterback who is a Super Bowl winner and a legend of the game. Cam Newton has been to two playoff games by default and his performance in both of those games was evident of the fact that the appearances were indeed by default.

Brady is in a league of his own, and not even Andrew Luck is on his level yet — whether that’s a level of play or a level of earning respect from officials. Refs are supposed to be unbiased, but there’s a level of respect that players earn over others that gets them calls a little easier.

Newton isn’t on either of those levels yet because he hasn’t earned it, and he doesn’t appear to be close on either account.
