Victor Cruz expects to be on the field on Sunday when the New York Giants take on the Buffalo Bills.

Victor Cruz expects to play his first game of the season Sunday when the New York Giants travel to Buffalo to play the Bills, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

According to Graziano, there’s only one thing stopping him from being there on Sunday, and that’s actually playing. The Giants want to see Cruz, who only played 6 games in 2014, play a full week of practice before making their decision about Sunday. Cruz is currently nursing a calf injury.

According to Graziano, there’s only one thing stopping him from being there on Sunday, and that’s actually playing.

Cruz was a dominant player early in his career, but his stats have since declined in every season he has played. In 2011 he hauled in 1,536 yards and 9 touchdowns, per ESPN statistics. A year later that yardage total came down to 1,092.

In 2013 his injuries started effecting his playing time, as he played 14 games in that season and 6 in the following, but still managed to bring in 1,335 yards between the two seasons.

The Giants are 1-2 on the season, though both of those losses came as the result of fourth quarter meltdowns. The Giants could very well have been 3-0 at this point and an added option in their receiving corp could bring their offense to the next level. With Odell Beckham Jr. drawing most of the double coverage, that has freed up some open looks for Reuben Randle and Larry Donnell. It’s likely that Cruz’s return will diminish target numbers for both of those players.
