26. player. 36. . OG. LSU. Vadal Alexander

Russell Wilson was sacked four times by the Chicago Bears defense in Week 3. Though the Seahawks came away with a decisive victory, the performance of the offensive line was troubling at best.

Guard Vadal Alexander out of LSU could protect the sometimes slow-on-the-draw Wilson and contribute to a more successful run game that eventually will not have the luxury of human bowling ball Marshawn Lynch who can often function as his own blocker and create holes where only huge, imposing defensive players stand.

Alexander has been versatile and a quick study. He has played at right tackle, inside, and left guard. At 6’5″ and 326 pounds, Alexander has developed a healthier, less cumbersome physique since first year. Alexander isn’t exactly sprightly, but instead of galumphing clumsily, he is surprisingly mobile and agile for a man of his size.

For teams that don’t have a running back who can run through people or give them piggyback rides as he lumbers down the field, Alexander is an excellent run blocker. He is also a decent pass protector, though he does tend to struggle against the rush.

An added bonus: Unlike some other offensive line candidates this year, Alexander has not missed time for serious injuries. His performance in the 2015 season will likely determine his ultimate role in the NFL, as teams and scouts evaluate if he is better suited to the role of tackle or guard. It is not unheard of for college tackle to switch to guard when they transition into the NFL. Alexander has experience in both positions and physical characteristics that allow him to be versatile and effective in either.
