College Football Picks Against The Spread October 1-2

Last week was a bit of a disappointment once again. I went 24-28 to put my season mark at 93-100. Hopefully I can gain some ground with conference play beginning in earnest this week.

There are 58 FBS vs. FBS games this weekend, so I have plenty of chances to make up ground. I need to go 33-25 against the spread to get back to .500 on the season. That is a reasonable goal, so that is what I am aiming for.

As far as the point system, it worked well for the first couple of weeks. I lost three points last week to put myself at -22 on the year after a disastrous week 3. In case you missed how the point system works, here is the rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. There simply is not enough information to get an accurate spread.

All of the picks for the Saturday games will be up at least two hours before the noon kickoffs for those of you parlayers out there.

Here are my college football picks against the spread October 1-2:

Miami(FL)(-6.5) at Cincinnati(5): This looks very low considering what Memphis did to the Bearcats last week. Whoever is under center for Cincy will definitely have a much harder time against the Miami defense than they did last week. Miami by double digits.

Temple(-22.5) at Charlotte(2): This is a big line on the road, but Temple definitely has the talent to cover it. Give me the Owls.

Memphis(-8.5) at South Florida(3): This line dropped below double digits, but not much below. Memphis is very good on offense, but their defense has been an issue so far this year. This could be a fairly low scoring game. The Bulls defense has looked very good so far. Then again, they got blasted by a Maryland team that really isn’t that good. Give me Memphis.

Connecticut at BYU(-17.5)(3): This line is up a whopping 14 points! I have never seen a line jump this much! It is still rising in some places. It is tough to play in Provo, but UConn hung with Missouri in Columbia. I definitely think they can stay within two touchdowns here. Give me UConn.

Stay tuned for the rest of the picks, against the spread of course!
