Next: Who Will Put Up Big Numbers At QB?
Sep 26, 2015; Lubbock, TX, USA; Texas Christian University Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin (2) looks for running room against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the second half at Jones AT&T Stadium. TCU defeated Texas Tech 55-52. Mandatory Credit: Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports
Quarterback:
Best Bets:
Seth Russell, Baylor ($10,100):Ā Russell is the highest priced player on the board, and with good reason. TCUās Trevone Boykin threw for 485 yards last weekend against Texas Tech. Russell is generally regarded as a better passer than Boykin, and this promises to be another shootout. Chances are Russell will be worth the money.
Trevone Boykin, TCU ($10,000):Ā We all saw what Cal and QB Jared Goff did against Texas two weeks ago. Boykin is also a capable runner. He has thrown a touchdown pass in 19 straight games, and has thrown 13 touchdowns to only two interceptions this season. He remains one of the safest bets in FanDuel if you are willing to spend the money.
Honorable Mention:
Greg Ward, Houston ($9,200):Ā Ward has ran for 314 yards to go with his 1,060 passing yards. All of that in only three games! He also has a stunning six rushing touchdowns on the year to go with his nine through the air. Tulsa is allowing 305 passing yards per game, but they are also allowing a staggering 270 rushing yards per game. With Ward also the most dangerous runner on the team, he could have a huge day. We saw what Baker Mayfield did to Tulsa. They are similar players.
Luke Falk, Washington State ($8,800): Calās defense didnāt magically get better last weekend against Washington. It was more indicative of Washingtonās struggles on offense. Washington State has no such issues. Cal allowed a school record in total yards to Texasās Jerrod Heard. Falk could come close to some school records in this one too.
Dark Horses:
Tommy Armstrong, Nebraska ($7,800): Illinoisās defense has been respectable so far, but Armstrong is the best QB they have faced so far. The offensive coaches have also allowed him to take off and run, increasing his value. He has ran for 112 yards in the last two games, and leads the Big Ten(14) with 1,266 passing yards through four games. A 300 yard day is a near certainty.
Wes Lunt, Illinois ($6,900): Pop quiz: who has the worst pass defense in the nation? Teams like Texas, Washington State, Cal, Tulsa, and TCU have been lit up through the air. None of them are the worst. Nebraska is. The Cornhuskers have allowed 1,518 passing yards in only four games. Lunt has had his share of struggles this year, but it wonāt get any easier than this matchup. He could produce like the big boys for a day!
My pick: Lunt
Next: Who Are The Best RB's?
Sep 19, 2015; Fort Worth, TX, USA; TCU Horned Frogs running back Aaron Green (22) during the game against the Southern Methodist Mustangs at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports
Running Back:
Best Bets:
Aaron Green, TCU ($8,000): Green has scored seven touchdowns already this year, and gets to face a Texas defense that has been awful against the run. The Longhorns have given up 206 rushing yards per game, and this after Oklahoma State didnāt have much success running against them last week. Green is in line for a big day on Saturday. Probably bigger than Nick Chubb against Alabama.
Shock Linwood, Baylor ($8,100): Green ran over Texas Tech last week, racking up 162 yards on 28 carries. Linwood should be able to do much of the same in what looks to be another Big 12(10) shootout. The Red Raiders are 122nd against the run this year, allowing 254.8 rushing yards per game so far.
Honorable Mention:
Ezekiel Elliot, Ohio State ($9,100): The Hoosiers have actually been decent against the run this year, but with the inconsistency in the Ohio State passing game, look for them to get the run going first. Indiana likely isnāt all that good against the run. They have just played pass heavy teams in Bowling Green and Western Kentucky.
DeAndre Washington, Texas Tech ($7,400): When Patrick Mahomes was hurt early against TCU, Washington was given all sorts of chances to provide a spark running the ball. With Mahomes immobile again this weekend if he does play, expect Washington to be a big part of the offense again against a weak Baylor defense.
Dark Horses:
Jonathan Gray, Texas ($6,300): Gray has found it tough sledding so far this year. For the first two weeks, the offense couldnāt move. Now it is Jerrod Heard eating half of his carries. No matter, there should be plenty to go around against TCU, who allowed a career high 188 yards rushing to DeAndre Washington last week.
Qadree Ollison, Pittsburgh ($5,600): Pittsburgh was dominated by Iowa in every way in their last game. Ollison will find the going much easier against a Virginia Tech defense that has been gouged for 205.8 yards per game on the ground. He may still lose some carries to Chris James, but he should still be productive enough for his price.
My picks:Ā Ollison and Linwood
Next: It Pays To Pay For WR's In The Early Tournaments
Sep 26, 2015; Waco, TX, USA; Baylor Bears wide receiver Corey Coleman (1) celebrates his touchdown against the Rice Owls during the second quarter at McLane Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports
Wide Receiver:
Best Bets:
Josh Doctson, TCU ($8,700): Doctson caught aĀ Big 12(10) recordĀ 18 passes last week against Texas Tech. It might be slightly tougherĀ for Doctson this week, as he gets to take on a Texas defense that is 113th in the country against the pass. Texas Tech is 121st. What that likely means for us is that he catches 16 passes instead of 18ā¦..
Corey Coleman, Baylor ($8,600): Coleman gets his shot at the Big 12 reception record this week as he gets his chance against the Red Raiders. Defense is a foreign substance in Lubbock, I guess.
Honorable Mention:
Demarcus Ayers, Houston ($6,700): Tulsa has allowed 305 passing yards per game so far this year. With Ward throwing the ball around so much, expect Ayers to be the receiver of choice. He has caught 16 passes in the last two games for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Expect another productive day for Ayers.
Jakeem Grant, Texas Tech ($6,900): Texas Tech loves to spread the ball around, but Grant is the most reliable receiver on the team. He has caught at least six passes in every game, making him bust-proof for the most part. He has also scored a touchdown in all four games. There could be a receiver with a bigger day for the Red Raiders, but Grant is the safe pick.
Dark Horses:
Geronimo Allison, Illinois ($6,200): Allison caught ten passes last week in a surprisingly close game against Middle Tennessee State. The Illini will have to throw the ball around again to stay within shouting distance of Nebraska and their last ranked pass defense. Allison could have a career game in this one.
Dennis Parks, Rice ($5,900): Parks is the number one receiver for the Owls, and they should throw it around a lot considering Western Kentucky is allowing 270 yards passing per game. Parks isnāt a household name, but he could put up numbers like one this weekend.
My picks: Coleman, Allison, Parks
Next: Is Higbee A Must Play Once Again?
Sep 5, 2015; Raleigh, NC, USA; North Carolina State Wolfpack tight end Jaylen Samuels (28) dives in for a touchdown during the first quarter against the Troy Trojans at Carter Finley Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports
Tight End:
Best Bet:
Jaylen Samuels, North Carolina State ($4,000): Samuels is eligible at tight end, but plays mostly an H-back type position in the Wolfpack offense. Samuels hasĀ 12 carries on the season with five of those going for touchdowns. He has also caught 20 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He will see plenty of touches at a variety of positions for North Carolina State. That makes him a better play than Higbee because of his versatility.
Honorable Mention:
Tyler Higbee, Western Kentucky ($4,100): Higbee has proven to be a valuable commodity in the Hilltopper offense. He has 26 catches already for 354 yards and four touchdowns, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Dark Horse:
Cam Serigne, Wake Forest ($2,800): Serigne has back-to-back games with five receptions, and should see the same workload against Florida State. He will see plenty of chances as a checkdown option with the FSU defense bearing down. If you need to go cheap, you should still get at least five points from Serigne.
My pick: Samuels
