Next: Who Will Put Up Big Numbers At QB?

Quarterback:

Best Bet:

Paxton Lynch, Memphis ($9,500): Lynch had a career high 412 yards passing last Thursday against Cincinnati. Look for him to throw it around again this week against South Florida. The Bulls are only averaging 210 yards passing allowed per game, but they faced two run-centered offenses in Florida A&M and Florida State in their three games. Memphis will run as well, and this likely won’t be another shootout this week, so don’t expect another career day from Lynch. It is not unreasonable to expect him to throw for around 300 yards and run for 50 more though.

Honorable Mention:

Brad Kaaya, Miami (8,600): Kaaya is coming off a career high 379 yards against Nebraska on September 19th. The Bearcats just allowed a career high to Memphis QB Paxton Lynch last week. Do you see where this is going? Kaaya is a strong bet to eclipse the 300 yard threshold again, and could flirt with another career high, depending on if Cincinnati stays close in the game or not.

Dark Horse:

Quinton Flowers, South Florida ($7,000): This year has been an adventure for Flowers so far. He only has 326 passing yards in three games, but he has thrown for five touchdowns, and run for two more while amassing 186 rushing yards as well. Going up against a Memphis defense that allowed a freshman to set a school record for passing yards (557)Ā in a game in which he didn’t even start, this could be a great time to play Flowers. He doesn’t have the passing ability that Hayden Moore has, but you can’t rule out a game in which he comes close to his season passing numbers against Memphis right now.

My Pick: Kaaya

Next: Are The Expensive RB's Worth It?

Sep 5, 2015; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Temple Owls running back David Hood (24) talks to running back Jahad Thomas (5) following the completion of the game against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Lincoln Financial Field. Temple defeated Penn State 27-10. Mandatory Credit: Matthew O

Running Back:

Best Bets:

Jahad Thomas, Temple ($8,800): UMass held Thomas to a season low 66 rushing yards last weekend, but Thomas still racked up 67 receiving yards and found the end zone. He is the focal point of the Temple offense whether they are having success running the ball or not. That makes him virtually bust-proof. Especially going up against a Charlotte team in their first year in FBS that allowed 260 rushing yards to Middle Tennessee State a couple of weeks ago.

Joseph Yearby, Miami ($8,100):Ā Yearby has separated himself from the rest of the crowded Miami backfield. He ran for 125 yards and a touchdown against a solid Nebraska front seven. He has 271 yards over his last two games, and is a good bet to pass the century mark against a Cincinnati team that is allowing 172.8 yards rushing per game this season.

Honorable Mention:

Sam Craft, Memphis ($6,200):Ā The Memphis backfield rotation makes it hard to own any Memphis back in fantasy, but with Adam Hine facing a really good Connecticut defense and Tion Green and Hosey Williams facing a good Miami front, you have to at least mention Memphis. Craft has found the end zone five times in four games, which makes him a little less of a risk than Jarvis Cooper or Jamarius Henderson.

Marlon Mack, South Florida ($6,000):Ā Mack may find the going a little bit tough against a Memphis defense that is only allowing 120 yards per game on the ground, but he will see a healthy workload as the Bulls will try to keep Memphis honest. The Tigers got shredded through the air last week, so there is a chance for the Bulls to get some traction on the ground while Memphis pays attention to the pass.

Dark Horse:

Arkeel Newsome, Connecticut ($5,600):Ā Newsome gets to face a BYU defense that has given up 185 yards per game on the ground so far this year. His presence in the passing game will also help just in case he is shut down again like he was by Navy and Missouri. I still think Newsome finds the going much easier this week, and could be a great bargain at this price.

My picks: Thomas and Newsome

Next: Which WRs Are The Safest?

Sep 11,2015;Boca Raton, FL, USA; University of Miami Hurricane wide reciever Rashawn Scott cannot make the catch as he is defended by Florida Atlantic Owl defensive back Raekwon Williams. Credit:Robert Duyos-USA TODAY Sports

Wide Receiver:

Best Bets:

Rashawn Scott, Miami ($7,000):Ā Scott has emerged as Brad Kaaya’s favorite receiver, and with the pigskin potentially flying around a lot against Cincinnati, Scott could have a huge day once again. He had 151 yards against Nebraska. He could come close to that again.

Mitch Mathews, BYU ($6,500):Ā This is purely a gut feeling. Connecticut has a good defense, but they aren’t particularly big. Mathews is a 6 foot 6 monster of a target for Tanner Mangum. Even if the Huskies keep BYU mostly under wraps, Mathews should see his share of targets and catches.

Honorable Mention:

Tevin Jones, Memphis ($6,500):Ā South Florida is going to use most of their manpower to stop Mose Frazier, much like Cincinnati did. This should open up things for Jones a little more, making him the Memphis receiver to gamble on if you feel the urge.

Shaq Washington, Cincinnati ($6,300):Ā This will be a tough game for the Bearcats, but Washington was the favorite target of backup Hayden Moore last week. Look for more of the same this week.

Dark Horse:

Noel Thomas, Connecticut ($5,400):Ā BYU is ranked 84th in the nation in pass defense. UConn has a young quarterback, but he seems to be developing a rapport with Thomas. He has caught 12 passes over the last two games.

My picks: Scott, Mathews, Thomas

Next: Is There A TE That Stands Out?

Dec 22, 2014; Miami, FL, USA; Memphis Tigers tight end Alan Cross (40) celebrates their win over the Brigham Young Cougars in the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park. Memphis won 55-48 in a double overtime. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Tight End:

Best Bet:

Alan Cross, Memphis ($2,900):Ā Memphis may have to check down against the tough South Florida defense. If they do, Cross will be the recipient of the extra targets. He has caught at least two passes in every game this year, so he is relatively low risk.

Honorable Mention:

Terenn Houk, BYU ($3,000):Ā Same thing for Houk. UConn will be all over the receivers, which could leave Houk open on short routes. Honestly, there are no great options at TE in these tournaments.

Dark Horse:

Tommy Myers, Connecticut ($2,000):Ā Myers has only caught four passes on the year, but two of them have gone for touchdowns. Keep in mind that if you punt tight end, you might only be out six points, but free up $1000. If Myers catches another TD, it could vault you into the money.

My pick: Cross
