Rajon Rondo seems pretty optimistic about what he can do with the Sacramento Kings

Point guard Rajon Rondo signed a one-year contract with the Sacramento Kings in July, and he will be looking to make a fresh start after a rough stint with the Dallas Mavericks. Right off the bat, he seems pretty optimistic about this new venture with a Kings team that really isn’t all that promising.

In a recent talk with Cowbell Kingdom’s Vince Miracle, the new Kings point guard revealed that he has not been this excited about playing for a team for a long time.

“Man, I haven’t been this excited since the ’08 team in Boston. If we can buy into coach Karl’s system, I think we are going to shock a lot of people,” Rondo said.

Rondo played a significant role in the 2008 Celtics’ NBA title run, and he helped lead the Celtics back to the Finals in 2010 after making his first All-Star Game.

The former Celtics point guard went on to make three more consecutive trips to the All-Star Game, but he began to become disgruntled in Boston. The Celtics eventually traded him to the Mavericks for a 2015 first-round pick, 2016 second-round pick, Jae Crowder, Brandan Wright and Jameer Nelson.

This move backfired in epic fashion for the Mavericks, as Rondo butted heads with head coach Rick Carlisle.

The 29-year-old was eventually benched and suffered a back injury that forced him out of the playoffs, and he watched his team get swept in the first round by the Houston Rockets.

The four-time All-Star will have a talented team to work with in Sacramento, as he will playing alongside center DeMarcus Cousins and small forward Rudy Gay. Cousins and Gay will strongly benefit from an assist machine such as Rondo, who is capable of producing double-digit assists per game.

They will also work with a veteran head coach in George Karl, who experienced a relatively successful stint with the Denver Nuggets as of late.

However, the Kings have a long ladder to climb since they have failed to make the playoffs since 2006 while never finishing higher than 11th in the Western Conference during their drought.
