Steve Kerr to take indefinite leave of absence from Golden State Warriors

After off-season back surgeries, Steve Kerr will be taking some time away as head coach of the Golden State Warriors
The NBA season is about to get underway this month, and with that, the Golden State Warriors will begin defense of their Larry O’Brien trophy that they won back in June with a series victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, when they start that defense, they will be without head coach Steve Kerr.
Golden State announced on Thursday that Kerr would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team as he continues to recover from back surgeries that he underwent this off-season.
Furthermore, taking his place in leading the team through the beginning of the season will be assistant coach Luke Walton.
In the release above, Kerr noted that it wasn’t too long after training camp got underway recently that he knew he’d never be able to make it through the full season as he was trying to recover.
“After the first two days of training camp, I realized I need to take a step back and focus on my rehabilitation in order to be ready for the grind of another NBA season,” Kerr said.
As of right now, there is no set timetable on when Kerr could return to the team.
