The New York Mets are back in the playoffs, but to start, they’ll only have Matt Harvey available for one outing
It’s a joyous time right now in Flushing, NY, as the New York Mets are headed back to the playoffs after becoming the National League East champions. With this, though, many are wondering just how much action ace Matt Harvey will be seeing on the mound in the National League Division Series.
Well, we have an answer.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told ESPN.com on Friday that Harvey will more than likely only see one start in the five-game series, which really isn’t a surprise at all. As a matter of fact, Mets fans should be glad that he’s playing at all. Remember, there was a time where it was believed Harvey would not be seeing the postseason at all as he tries to get back to full health after Tommy John Surgery last season.
As for which game we could see Harvey take the mound for the Mets, well, the impression was given to ESPN that he’ll be out there with the ball for Game 3. Of course, no matter the circumstances, they’re putting a lot on his shoulders. This could be a situation where he is trying to go for the sweep, help the Mets avoid a sweep, or put them on the cusp of taking the whole thing if the series is tied at 1-1.
No matter which situation Harvey does face when he gets his call in the rotation, at least for the NLDS, it will be the only time that we see him.
