Northwestern wide receiver Solomon Vault made a tremendous grab that easily could have been a catch of the year if it wasn’t ruled incomplete?
The one-handed catch has almost become the new “thing” in football. Everyone wants to replicate or come close to Odell Beckham Jr.’s insane catch from last season.
Northwestern wide receiver Solomon Vault attempted to pull off a one-handed grab in today’s game against Minnesota. He snagged the football with his left hand and bobble it a little. The catch looked good, though, because the ball never touched the ground.
Check out these two looks at the ridiculous grab.
Unfortunately, after further review from the officials, the catch was overturned and ruled incomplete.
What’s deemed a catch has come under constant debate in football over the years. Something that’s always been so simple has been over analyzed to the point where a catch is now a complicated process. Does the player have control of the ball? Did he control it all the way to the ground? Did he get one foot (for college football) or both feet (for the NFL) in bounds? All these questions makes the debate of what’s a catch a never-ending controversy.
This hurt Vault today, as this catch could have easily stood as complete. He would have had a nice place in the SportsCenter top 10 list tonight as well. Maybe he’ll still get some recognition for this tremendous effort, though.
Should this have been ruled a catch or was overturning it the correct call?
