The Baylor Bears lit up the scoreboard on Saturday, picking up a 63-35 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders at AT&T Stadium.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders may have been the first true test of 2015 for the Baylor Bears, but it certainly did not look that way on Saturday. The Bears cruised to a 63-35 blowout victory, in a game that was never close beyond the first quarter.

Baylor entered Saturday as the nation’s top offense, averaging 767 yards per game after three consecutive 700-yard performances to start the season. While the Bears did not quite reach those numbers in this one, they certainly did not take it easy on the Red Raiders.

When all was said and done, they had compiled 680 total yards. Star quarterback Seth Russell continued his recent streak of dominance with 367 total yards and six touchdowns with just one interception. Junior running back Shock Linwood contributed 221 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 79-yard touchdown run on the third play from scrimmage that set the tone for the remainder of the game.

Texas Tech kept the game close at the beginning, but after closing the gap to 21-14 with 2:16 remaining in the first quarter, the Red Raiders gave up 21 unanswered points. Baylor did not let up, and led by at least 21 points throughout the entire second half.

Texas Tech’s offense put up big numbers like expected, but simply could not match Baylor’s offensive production. Freshman quarterback Brandon Mahoney had another solid outing for the Red Raiders, passing for 415 yards and three touchdowns. But a pair of untimely interceptions, two lost fumbles and three failed fourth-down conversions was too much for Texas Tech to overcome.

It was Baylor’s fifth consecutive victory over the Red Raiders, after losing the previous 15 contests between the teams.
