Kevin Owens retained his Intercontinental Championship against Chris Jericho at the WWE MSG Show

Kevin Owens, the self-proclaimed prizefighter, just became WWE Intercontinental Champion less than a month ago at Night of Champions. However, he was still willing to put his newly won belt on the line against a certified legend of pro wrestling in Chris Jericho—celebrating the 25th anniversary of his debut in professional wrestling—as they took the stage at the WWE MSG Show on Saturday night.

Owens starting laying the hammer to the veteran Y2J right after opening bell, hitting him with clubbing blows and kicks. However, Jericho turned the tide with a drop kick and then another as Owens was standing on the apron to send the champ to the outside:

Jericho went to the outside to try and capitalize, but only brought the fight more into Owens’ element. The Big man was able to get the advantage in the match and hold on to it for a while, even with Y2J desperately trying to fight back:

It was finally Owens’ arrogance that caught up with him as he went to gloat and was caught by Jericho coming off of the top rope. Jericho tried to lock on the Walls of Jericho, but couldn’t quite get Owens turned. The veteran then began unleashing a flurry of offense, but Owens’ power was entirely too much:

Jericho somehow still had fight left after that, and tried to get the upper hand for himself with a flurry of strikes and then a Lionsault. However, Owens got his knees up on the Lionsault and then sent Y2J into the corner for a Cannonball:

Owens then tried to go up top to finish things off, but Jericho returned the favor of getting his knees up. That’s when Jericho locked in The Walls, but Owens was able to get to the ropes. Jericho then hit Owens with the Codebreaker, but Owens grabbed the rope after a two-count. Owens then popped up and hit a wicked superkick:

In an amazingly quick sequence, Jericho caught Owens once again and tried to get The Walls locked in once again. This resulted in an exchange of roll-ups, but Owens ultimately got the position after poking Jericho in the eye. That poke and roll-up was enough for the 1-2-3 and the win for the champ:
