49ers to work out Terrelle Pryor at wide receiver
By Ian O'Brien
The San Francisco 49ers become the latest team to try to solve their problems by working out Terrelle Pryor as a wide receiver.
The San Francisco 49ers find themselves in an unfavorable position, as they suffered their third loss in a row, this time at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. As such, they are looking for upgrades wherever they can find them.
As the SF Chronicle reports, that the 49ers are working out Terrelle Pryor at wide receiver in an attempt to help add another offensive weapon to a team that seems devoid of them.
Pryor used to play quarterback, but he switched positions this year while trying out for the Cleveland Browns. Although he made the final 53-man roster, Pryor was released by the Browns before the season opener.
He would add receiving depth for a 49ers team that is looking for depth beyond Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin. However, 49ers fans may be calling for the team to consider him as an option at quarterback if their offensive struggles continue.
Pryor has previous experience as a starting quarterback at Ohio State and with the Oakland Raiders, so the 49ers may at least be tempted to give him a shot down the road.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick particularly struggled against the Packers, as his offensive line gave him little to no protection by allowing six sacks. This caused Kaepernick to throw for 160 yards and an interception with no touchdown passes for an abysmal 55.4 passer rating.
The 49ers will have to stick with Kaepernick for the time being since they gave him a monster contract extension that includes $54 million in guaranteed money. His starting job does not appear to be in any danger at this point since their second-stringer is Blaine Gabbert, who is known as one of the biggest draft busts of all time. However, should Kaepernick continue to struggle and the Niners’ season slips away, the team may be forced to at least consider other possibilities.
