Daniel Bryan doesn’t know if he’ll ever compete in WWE again, but is willing to wrestle elsewhere
WWE fans and professional wrestling fans in general have been pining over the potential return of Daniel Bryan to the ring. Shortly after winning the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31, Bryan was forced to drop the title due to injury concerns. Those injury concerns, which were later revealed to be concussion related, have been following him since and keeping him out of in-ring action.
In an interview with IGN, Bryan said that one doctor has cleared him, but WWE’s doctor has yet to do the same. Subsequently, his fate within WWE is now in the hands of a third doctor who he will see in the near future. If that doctor says no, Bryan will likely be done with WWE in terms of active competition. However, that wouldn’t be the end of Daniel Bryan as a professional wrestler.
Bryan stated in the interview that he would be willing to make a return to independent wrestling if he were never able to compete in WWE again. It was on the indies where he gained fame in the wrestling community as both Bryan Danielson and the American Dragon. However, Bryan would be interested in a new venture if he were to reappear on the indies.
The bearded grappler stated that he has been recently fascinated with lucha libre wrestling and would love to compete in a promotion branded with that type of wrestling. He specifically mentioned CMLL out of Mexico City as a place he’d love to work, but you also have to imagine that promotions such as AAA or Lucha Underground would love to ink him to some type of deal to compete under their brand.
The future is still unclear for Bryan in WWE, which is frustrating for everyone. However, it’s comforting for fans to know that, even if he never wrestles with WWE again, Bryan isn’t going to be hanging up his boots for good.
