ESPN College Pick Em Picks For Week 6

facebooktwitterreddit

Week 5 was nothing short of a disaster. I got my 10, nine, and seven point games right, and still ended up with only 27 points. I was going to change my Georgia pick because of the weather, and I should have. You have to get big plays in the passing game to beat Alabama. Going forward, if I change a pick, I will update the article and re-tweet it.

This week looks a lot easier. There are three separate games I would put in the ten spot. Hopefully that will give me a chance to gain some ground. I am currently sitting at 168 points. I want to be at 215 by Sunday.

Here are my ESPN college pick em picks for week 6. They are in order from most confident(10) to least(1) for those of you that play the confidence version of the game.

(10)Florida at Missouri:

The Gators jumped 14 spots after they dominated Ole Miss in the swamp. I know this is on the road, and that Florida didn’t look particularly good in their only other road game so far in Lexington, but Missouri has been awful. They escaped against Connecticut and Arkansas State – not Arkansas, Arkansas State – at home. This is a different, and better, team with Drew Lock under center. That said, he is still a freshman, and more than half of Florida’s defense is going to play in the NFL. They are that good. This stays low scoring, but the game won’t really be in question.

(9)Oklahoma over Texas:

When you have a player tweeting about transferring at halftime, you have problems that won’t be fixed soon. On paper, Texas has no chance. In reality, this is the only thing they have left going for them this season besides an impending win against Kansas. You can bet they will show up for this rivalry. Spirit can only get you so far. Oklahoma will pull away at some point.

(8)Boise State over Colorado State:

After a loss on a hail mary against BYU (sound familiar??), Boise has rebounded quite nicely. The Rams will probably hang around for a while, but the revolving door at quarterback is not good for either of them or the offense as a whole. Boise’s defense made a statement against Virginia. They keep it up with another dominating road performance.

(7)Utah over California:

Cal is getting better, but they aren’t quite there yet. Utah’s defense is far superior than anything Cal has seen so far this year. That and their defense is still terrible. Utah won’t light them up like Texas and Washington State did, but they will score plenty enough for their defense.

(6)Florida State over Miami:

The Seminole offense has been a work in progress. Then again, so has Miami’s. The Seminoles have a much better defense and they are at home, so Florida State it is. If this were in Miami, I would give the Hurricanes a bit more of a chance. Well, maybe not. I watched the Cincinnati game, after all…..

(5)Indiana over Penn State:

Last week will be a tough loss for the Hoosiers, but beating a Penn State team in Happy Valley will get them that swagger back. Even if Nate Sudfeld can’t go, Zander Diamont is good enough to run this offense. The experience he gained last year allowed him to not be rattled much by Ohio State. Penn State just doesn’t have the athletes that the Buckeyes do on defense, and their offense is a disaster. There is even a chance the Hoosiers could win by two or more touchdowns.

(4)Georgia over Tennessee:

Tennessee’s run defense has been solid, but aside from praying for another foot of rain to fall on Saturday afternoon, the Vols don’t have much of a chance. They have let games get away all season. They will find some way to let it happen again. Tennessee has the offensive weapons to keep this close and make it interesting, but Georgia has the tools to wear them down just like Florida and Oklahoma did.

(3)Wisconsin over Nebraska:

Wisconsin looked awful last week against Iowa. Luckily for them, Nebraska’s defense isn’t nearly that good. What will keep this game interesting is Nebraska’s run defense. It has been very good all year long. Wisconsin will try to throw, and will likely fail, but their defense is good enough to keep Nebraska mostly in check. This will be close if Wisconsin doesn’t bench Stave, which they won’t. I like Armstrong more and Nebraska is at home, but they have become experts at blowing games themselves. Look at last week’s disaster against Illinois in a game they had won.

(2)Northwestern over Michigan:

The Wolverines are all hush-hush about De’Veon Smith. We likely won’t know for sure if he will play until he trots out onto the field. I am guessing that he will. This is going to be an epic defensive battle. Think Iowa-Wisconsin, but without all of the sloppy play. It comes down to quarterback play, and Clayton Thorson doesn’t make nearly as many bad decisions as Jake Rudock does. That gives Northwestern a slight edge.

(1)West Virginia over Oklahoma State:

OSU was sloppy at best against Texas and Kansas State. West Virginia played a solid game in Norman. The game just got away from them with all of the turnovers. The Cowboys won’t be able to force the issue as much. I see the Mountaineers getting it done at home.
