The Seattle Seahawks are leading the Detroit Lions 7-0 in the second quarter on Monday Night Football, with most of the credit going to quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson has been under duress on almost every drop-back, and yet torched the Lions on a 24-yard touchdown to Doug Baldwin in the back of the end zone.

Baldwin did an excellent job to get both feet down before flying out of bounds, but this whole play was set up by Wilson. The fourth-year pro out of the University of Wisconsin was able to scramble around throughout the drive, keeping it alive until Seattle reached the Lions’ 24-yard line. From there, Wilson made his read and fired a strike, showing why he was worthy of the four-year, $87.5 million contract extension he received this summer.

On the night, Wilson is 6-of-8 for 109 yards and a touchdown. While Detroit’s defense is nothing special, the Lions have been dominating Seattle’s weak offensive line. The Seahawks have only allowed one sack through the first 20 minutes, but only because of Wilson’s elusiveness. If Peyton Manning was the quarterback in Seattle, there would have been about nine at this point.
If the Lions can’t bring Wilson to the ground, this is going to be a long night for the team hoping to avoid an 0-4 start. Detroit has not been able to do much offensively, yet to cross the 50-yard line. The rushing attack has been embarrassing, with Detroit picking up 18 yards on eight carries.
