Back to the Future II predicted it, now it’s all in the Cubs’ hands. In order for the lovable losers to make their first World Series since 1945 and take the first MLB title since 1908 they first must square off with division rival Pittsburgh in the NL Wild Card Game.
It’s undeniable that the NL Central was the best division in baseball all season long. Unfortunately for the Pirates and Cubs, only one club can survive and advance. After getting off the schneid a few years back, the Pirates are in the postseason now for the third consecutive year. They were bounced (see: pounded) in the Wild Card Game last season by eventual World Series winner San Francisco and will be looking for redemption against their Central rival. Chicago won the season series, 11-8, but have dropped two of the last three against the Pirates.
