The Chicago Cubs are back in the postseason for the first time since 2008 and are off to St. Louis and a showdown in the NLDS.

It has been over ten years since the Chicago Cubs won a playoff series, and while it’s hard to call a one game Wild Card playoff a series, the Cubs are advancing in the MLB Postseason for the first time since 2003. Chicago shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates and are advancing to the ALDS, keeping their World Series hopes alive for at least three more games.

Here’s a look at the updated MLB Playoff bracket now that the Cubs have eliminated the Pirates in the NL Wild Card:

The game wasn’t without it’s interesting moments, as aside from the scoring by the Cubs the only defense that the Pirates played on the night was when they cleared the benches. In the seventh inning, Cubs ace Jake Arrieta was hit by a pitch in retaliation for plunking two Pirates players, and the benches ended up clearing with Sean Rodriguez ending his nigh by being ejected.

Other than that, it was a silent night from the Pirates who have now been shutout in back-to-back Wild Card games in consecutive years. Chicago is on to the NLDS and a showdown with the St. Louis Cardinals, a heated rivalry that should be more than we bargained for this postseason.

The Cubs and Cardinals will begin their series this Friday in St. Louis.
