Highlights and results from Apollo Crews vs Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover: Respect

Ever the one to ruffle feathers, Tyler Breeze was ready to take on the relative newcomer Apollo Crews. Crews had been impressive up to NXT Takeover: Respect, but there’s no question that Prince Pretty would be the highly versatile Crews’ biggest challenge to date in NXT.

Crews and Breeze expectedly spent the first few moments of the action jockeying for control, trading rest holds and strikes with one another. Crews looked like he might gain the early edge over Breeze:

But Breeze tried to turn the tide. Crews’ power wouldn’t let that happen, though:

The big man then hit Breeze with an enormous vertical suplex. However, Breeze escaped to the outside and started walking up the ramp. Crews went after him, which is when Prince Pretty pulled a fast one on his opponent and flung him viciously against the apron on the outside:

Breeze took advantage of that and began to take it to the relative newbie in NXT, including a wickedly innovative backbreaker:

Crews eventually caught Breeze trying to go to the top rope. However, Breeze wiggled free and then locked Crews in the Sharpshooter and put Crews in dire straits. Crews got to the ropes to break the hold, though.

After that, Crews was able to fight back and hit Breeze with a humungous kick that made one of the loudest sounds I’ve ever heard from a strike:

Trying to continue building momentum, Crews tried to pick up the pace. That’s when he got tagged in the kisser by a SuperModel Kick:

The two then both picked up the pace as Crews got in some huge offense, which Breeze only answered with big moves and counters of his own:

However, Crews caught Breeze for a final time and delivered a picture-perfect spinning powerbomb that put Breeze down for the one-two-three:
