Trevor Booker took swing at Roy Hibbert (Video)
Trevor Booker was throwing punches at Roy Hibbert during a preseason game
The Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers were playing preseason NBA basketball on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning in Honolulu, HI. It was a friendly game of ball between two professional teams until Trevor Booker and a couple of Lakers had to escalate things to a new level midway through the third quarter.
Lakers forward Julius Randle was bodying up Booker on the perimeter and Booker wasn’t a fan of the contact. As a result, Booker kind of shoved Randle away. This, in turn, angered Lakers center Roy Hibbert, so the seven-footer came over to confront Booker. And that’s when things nearly got out of control, as Booker took a swipe at Hibbert’s face:
You can’t really call that a punch because Booker’s hand is open when he swings, but he definitely just tried to hit one of the NBA’s biggest men in the face. That’s both not allowed and not advised.
Booker was predictably ejected from the game after the officials took the monitors to review the play. Hats off to the men in stripes, as well. First for not letting a highly combustible situation get out of hand, and secondly for making the correct call by ejecting Booker. Maybe now we can get into the basketball and steer away from the taking swings at opposing players.
