College Football Picks Against The Spread October 8/9
By Mike Marteny
There are 55 FBS vs. FBS games in week 6. Four of them take place on Thursday and Friday. In case you don’t know what I do here, I pick every college football game of the season. Against the spread. Trust me, it’s not as easy as it sounds!

I had a much better week in week 5. It was a good enough week that I got back in the black on my overall picks (127-124) and my points scale (+4). In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:
5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.
4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.
3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.
2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.
1. Stay away from these.
Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. There simply is not enough information to get an accurate spread.
All of the picks for the Saturday games will be up at least two hours before the noon kickoffs for those of you parlayers out there!
Until then, here are my college football picks against the spread October 8/9:
SMU at Houston(-25.5)(3); Man, this is a big line, but Houston’s defense looked good against a solid Tulsa offense last week. And I still can’t get my head around SMU losing to James Madison. Give me Houston. They definitely have the talent to cover this.
Washington at (17)USC(-16.5)(4): This line has been at -17 for four days. It hasn’t moved once. I gave the half last week. I will give it again here. Washington won’t stay close. Give me the Trojans.
Southern Mississippi at Marshall(-4.5)(4): This line is backwards. Southern Miss straight up.
North Carolina State at Virginia Tech(-1.5)(1): Honestly, neither team has looked that good. The Wolfpack have better skill players, but will that be enough? Jacoby Brissett has looked a lot more lost than Brendan Motley. I want to take Virginia Tech at home, but I just can’t do it. Give me NC State.
Stay tuned for the rest of the picks against the spread!
