Keys to Victory

Florida State

Last season this game was closer than a lot of people expected it to be and that was thanks to Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya having somewhat of a coming out party. Then a freshman, Kaaya showed everyone how good he can be, throwing for 316 yards and two touchdowns. Coming into this one, Miami knows that if they can get the passing game going, they’ll have a chance to knock off their rivals. This is a very good Florida State defense so far this year, so they have one mission on Saturday night and that is not letting Kaaya and the Canes go off with throwing the ball down the field again.

Miami

For the Hurricanes, their key to victory in this one comes on the defensive side of the ball and making things miserable for Everett Golson. While Golson has not been terrible for his new team, he hasn’t necessarily been opening up a lot of eyes either. When he’s pressured, things seem to kind of fall apart for Florida State. This Miami defense needs to get to Golson early and often, giving that offense as many chances as they can to figure out the Seminoles’ defense.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Florida State -8.5
Moneyline: Miami +270, Florida State -330
O/U: 51

Prediction

After losing to Cincinnati on the road in their last outing, this is a win this Miami program desperately needs. Al Golden is already on the hot seat, but the calls for his head can be calmed significantly if he can lead this team to their first win over Florida State since that aforementioned 2009 season.

Florida State has looked inconsistent at times this year, so the opening is there for Miami to take advantage.

However, even with the valiant effort they’ll put in, it won’t be enough to get the job done against this Seminoles defensive unit that has been one of the best in the country this season.

Final Score: Florida State 17, Miami 10
