Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee cleared concussion protocol and will play versus the New England Patriots in Week 5.

According to Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee cleared concussion protocol after receiving one in Dallas’ Week 4 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The leader of the Cowboys defense will suit up for their Week 5 matchup against the 3-0 New England Patriots.

The Dallas Cowboys seem to have had the worst luck of any team in the NFL with injuries in the first quarter of the 2015 NFL Season. However, Dallas does have some good news: Sean Lee will play on Sunday versus New England.

This comes as a little bit of a surprise since the Cowboys have a bye following their Week 5 meeting with the Patriots. Wide receiver Dez Bryant will likely return in Week 7 after his leg fully heals to face the reigning NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Would it have made more sense for Owner/GM Jerry Jones to lean on the side of precaution before entering the bye? Dallas’ second half schedule is easier than the gauntlet they will have to face in the first nine weeks of 2015.

Having Lee back in the lineup on Sunday could mean a few things for the Cowboys: 1. Sean Lee is a ferocious competitor and will do anything to stay on the field after missing all of 2014 with an ACL tear. 2. Dallas wants to combat their two-game slide and try not to make it a three-game one entering the bye. 3. For Dallas to win games in the extended absence of quarterback Tony Romo, they are going to have to lean on one man: linebacker Sean Lee.

Dallas may have had worst luck than anybody with the injury bug so far in 2015, but this team still has its eyes set on repeating as NFC East Champions. Should they get back Tony Romo in the final quarter of 2015 still in contention for the NFC Playoffs, Dallas could miraculously orchestrate a trip to the NFC Championship Game this January.
