The St. Louis Cardinals are not having a fun time in Game 2 of the NLDS, but their fans are trying to make them feel better.
After giving up six runs over the first handful of innings in Game 2 of the NLDS, it’s safe to say that the St. Louis Cardinals have seen better days. Original starter Jaime Garcia was yanked after allowing five runs in the second inning and the Cards sunk deeper into the whole after that.
But while the fans in St. Louis were growing very impatient with the nasty start to the game, they still stuck by their team in ways that make the baseball romantic in you feel all diabetic with sweetness. In the bottom of the third inning, Matt Carpenter lost control of his bat and it went flying into the crowd — luckily not injuring anyone, unlike other times this has happened around the league this past seats.
Instead of keeping the bat as a souvenir, the Cardinals fan gave Carpenter his bat back:
Cardinals fans are hailed as being the best in baseball, and while that’s wildly overzealous statement to make it’s hard to not feel all gross and nostalgic about this moment.
Yeah, it’s the cheesiest thing you’ll see on television all day, but it goes to show that the Cardinals and their fans are truly connected — so much so that the team can lean on fans to help them out when they’re down 6-1 in a home playoff game.
