The NCAA changed its mind about Leonard Fournette auctioning off his jersey, but they’re still gutless.

When Leonard Fournette announced that he was auctioning off his uniform for charity to benefit the victims of flooding in South Carolina, we quickly learned that the NCAA was not going to allow it. As per usual with everything in the NCAA that is even remotely close to benefiting someone other than themselves, it was deemed  violation for Fournette to auction off his uniform with the proceeds going to charity.

As it turns out, the NCAA changed its mind about Fournette not being able to auction off his uniform for the flooding victims in South Carolina.

So this means the NCAA is all good in the hood — right? Well, not really as this is only confirming that the organazation is as clueless as they’ve ever been. While it’s nice that they are allowing Fournette to donate his uniform, what this is saying is basically that a college athlete is allowed to make a profit themselves and have those profits bypass the NCAA — so long as the beneficiary isn’t the college athlete whom the money is being made off of.

This is just another example of how gutless the NCAA is. What they’re doing here is trying to make it look like they’re the good guys by allowing Fournette to use his million dollar star power for good and not greed. But the NCAA couldn’t seem more begrudging about this whole ordeal, as it’s hard to believe the organization changing their minds had there not been a giant stink caused by those of us who still have souls.

All of this smacks of the NCAA being forced into a corner with this, as they weren’t about to let their greed get that in the way of humanity, even they came as close as they possibly could. They’re not going to be getting any pats on the back for doing the right thing though, even if it’s the only time they ever have.

It’s nice that the NCAA changed their minds about Fournette donating his jersey, but the fact that he’s being allowed to do so and not by free will is still the root of the problem here. The NCAA acknowledging this by allowing it is disgusting — but what else is new with these people.
