San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Giants

The New York Giants have a major opportunity to take control of the NFC East in Week 5 if they can score a victory as the San Francisco 49ers visit MetLife Stadium for Sunday Night Football. Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and the rest of Tom Coughlin’s bunch will look to continue looking impressive over their past two games and subsequent victories. Meanwhile, the 49ers will need Colin Kaepernick, Carlos Hyde and the rest of their offense to find any kind of consistency and productivity if they want to be able to get on track to salvage their season.

Keys to Victory

Colin Kaepernick has to look like an NFL quarterback again for the 49ers to have any chance in this game. That may seem like a simple statement to say the least, but Kaepernick has looked far from that in his past couple of outings. The Giants defense hasn’t been impressive too often this season, but Kaepernick has looked awful in terms of his decision-making, his reads, and basically everything that it takes to be successful as a quarterback in the NFL. It doesn’t matter if the Giants defense is a revolving door that implodes in this game if Kaepernick doesn’t step it up.

For the Giants, giving Eli Manning time to throw and good options off of his reads against a 49ers defense that has been lackluster is going to be key. That’s also not a tall task, but the Giants running game has been relatively putrid up to this point in the season. If they want to put points on the board against San Francisco, they’re almost surely going to have to do it in the passing game. They have the weapons and have shown they’re capable of doing so, but they’ll need to make certain it plays out that way on Sunday night.

Prediction

The 49ers aren’t devoid of talent throughout their roster despite how they’ve looked thus far this season. That being said, they’ve looked so abysmal while the Giants have looked quite promising as of late. I don’t see those narratives changing for either team in this contest.

Final Score: San Francisco 49ers: 13, New York Giants: 24
