Chase Utley took out Ruben Tejada at second base, and well, the slide itself was pretty questionable to say the least
Sometimes when a runner is sliding into a base and takes out the infielder, you can chalk it up to accident. There are times where it’s pretty evident that it was just an unfortunate coincidence. Then, we have what happened on Saturday night in Game 2 of the NLDS between the Dodgers and Mets with Chase Utley that convinces you something unfortunate that happened was intentional.
With the Dodgers making the comeback in this one after falling behind early, Utley was on his way to second base in the 7th inning. The ball was flipped to shortstop Ruben Tejada to try and get the out, and that is where Utley took Tejada right out of the equation and it did not look pretty.
You can judge for yourself, but from a quick look at it, that seemed pretty intentional. There will be some people that defend this, but not many, more than likely.
Tejada was taken off the field and his leg had to be put in an air cast.
Now, maybe the most baffling part of all this is that Utley, although he never touched the bag, was called safe.
MLB Spokesperson: Replay allowable b/c that was not a neighborhood play. Reviewed under auspices of force play.

MLB Spokesperson: Once replay determined 2B ump got call wrong, runner who left field could be placed back at 2B.

So from MLB spokesperson, forget about interference at 2B b/c umps didn't feel it was and it wasn't reviewed.

According to MLB rules, on a replay where BOTH the fielder misses the bag/tag AND the runner misses the bag, the runner is ruled safe.

As far as Tejada goes, we’ve learned that things have gotten worse, as he’s been diagnosed with a fractured right fibula.

Just a bizarre turn of events overall here.
