The Cincinnati Bengals are 5-0 for the first time in forever, and they won in the most Bengals way possible.
For the first time in a long time, the Cincinnati Bengals are undefeated through the first five weeks of the season and are in the running for a top seed in the AFC Playoffs. Assuming the Patriots win in Dallas on Sunday afternoon, the Bengals would be tied with New England and Denver for the best record in the NFL and should either of those two teams lose then the Bengals are in sole possession of the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
All of this was made possible by an overtime field goal from Mike Nugent that almost didn’t go in.
Nugent nearly missed the 42-year field goal, doinking it in for the win.
That’s the most Bengals way to get off to a 5-0 start ever, and it’s too perfect. But while it’s nice that the Bengals upset the Seahawks and are now tie for the best record in football, there’s still the stigma attached to the team that they can’t win in the postseason.
All five of the wins the Bengals have come in the regular season, and the fact still remains that the team hasn’t played past the first weekend of the postseason in seemingly forever.
