Did Derek Carr throw pick six because of Blue Angels?
By John Buhler
Derek Carr threw a pick six to Denver’s Chris Harris, Jr. because of the Blue Angels flying over O.co Coliseum?
A strange set of circumstances occurred inside of seven minutes remaining in the Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders Week 5 game in O.co Coliseum. Oakland quarterback Derek Carr threw a game-altering interception to Denver cornerback Chris Harris, Jr. that resulted in a 74-yard pick six.
At the same moment the pick happened, the legendary Blue Angels did a flyover across the airspace above the Coliseum, distracting all fans in attendance.
This flyover also has some fan thinking that Carr was also distracted, and they are none too pleased about it.
Oakland ran a fairly well designed crossing pattern that could have worked against the strong defense of the Denver Broncos. However, when Carr delivered the pass to the middle of the field, it seemed as though the only man paying attention on that play was Chris Harris, Jr.
Of course, you’d need a tinfoil hat to truly believe the flyover caused the interception — but it’s not impossible either.

It could make sense since Harris’ back was to the aerial display and may have been too amped up to have been effective by the blaring sound of multiple jet engines. When going back to the sidelines, Carr looked confused by the set of circumstances, as if he couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Had Carr not thrown this poorly timed interception, Oakland could have taken the lead over Denver and possibly moved within a game of the AFC West leading Broncos. In one instant, the Raiders went from 3rd and 5 on Denver’s 31, trailing 9-7 with seven minutes remaining to being down 16-7.
