Both J.R. Smith and Lil Wayne should probably fact-check before they get on social media

Lamar Odom is reportedly in a coma after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel on Tuesday afternoon. He was taken to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital where he is reportedly hooked up to breathing machines and fighting for his life.

Many NBA players and celebrities sent out their prayers, thoughts, and best wishes to Odom and his friends and family during this incredibly scary and trying time. However, Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith and rapper Lil Wayne apparently misinterpreted the situation entirely.

Smith posted this eulogy for Odom on Instagram on Wednesday morning:

The Cavs guard wasn’t alone in telling a still-alive Odom to Rest In Peace, though, as Lil Wayne sent out this tweet on Wednesday morning as well:

In no way is this to make light of the 35-year-old Odom’s currently dire situation, but it’s just too dumbfounding that two well-known celebrities in sports and pop culture prematurely sent out RIP messages to Odom and his family.

Hopefully, Smith and Wayne are both aware now that Odom is still alive and can send Odom’s friends and family the prayers, wishes, and love that they need right now. Also, let’s hope that Odom’s situation won’t warrant these types of messages any time soon.
