Chicago Cubs favorite to win World Series
By Mike Dyce
The Chicago Cubs have become the favorite to win the World Series.
The Chicago Cubs entered National League Divisional Series in a tie with the third best odds to win the World Series. After dispatching the St. Louis Cardinals in four games, the Cubs have now emerged as the favorites to win the World Series according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
"The Cubs were 8-5 in MGM’s book Wednesday before the American League Division Series’ decisive Game 5s, followed by the Blue Jays at 2-1, Royals at 3-1, Dodgers 5-1, Mets and Rangers 6-1 and Astros at 8-1.Also prior to the ALDS games, William Hill bookmakers had the Cubs at 9-4, followed by the Blue Jays (3-1), Royals (7-2), Mets (6-1), Rangers (12-1) and Astros (15-1)."
The hype and mania surrounding the lovable losers during this postseason run is at a fever pitch. The Cubs, were the first team to clinch a berth to the League Championship Series and knocked off the team with the best record in baseball. The Cardinals were one of two teams with better odds than the Cubs to win the World Series before the Divisional Series began.
At that point in time the Toronto Blue Jays were the overwhelming favorites, but struggled against the Texas Rangers in the Divisional Series and needed a big win in Game 5 to advance.
And all this makes me nervous that the hype surrounding the Cubs will jinx them and prevent them from fulfilling Back To The Future II’s prophecy that they will win the 2015 World Series.
