The Pelicans are set to add Nate Robinson

The New Orleans Pelicans are looking to build on their first-round playoff exit. They have started by signing guard Nate Robinson, according to ESPN NBA reporter Marc Stein.

Robinson has been a journeyman throughout his NBA career since leaving the New York Knicks, and the Pelicans will be the eighth stop of his career. The 31-year-old is no longer a consistent double-digit scorer like he was with the Knicks, but he is still capable of being a veteran leader and valuable bench contributor. The 5’9″ point guard was last seen switching from the Denver Nuggets to the Los Angeles Clippers, whom he signed a 10-day contract with before being released by the team due to an injury.

Meanwhile, the Pelicans are coming off a first-round sweep at the hands of the defending champion Golden State Warriors, and they are hoping to continue building their future around All-Star power forward Anthony Davis.

The Pelicans have assured solid depth at the guard positions, as point guard Jrue Holiday and shooting guard Eric Gordon will be returning as starters. Norris Cole and Tyreke Evans will also be returning as key bench contributors. The Pelicans are still relatively thin at center and small forward, as Omer Asik does not have quality depth behind him while Dante Cunningham still has yet to prove that he can be a starting-caliber small forward.

It remains to be seen whether the Pelicans can reach the playoffs in a stacked Western Conference, as the playoff teams from last season do not appear to be slowing down any time soon.
