No. 19 Oklahoma Sooners vs. Kansas State Wildcats

Last week was a rough week for both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Kansas State Wildcats for different reasons. This week, both teams will be looking to get on the rebound against each other in a big conference game taking place in Manhattan, Kansas this Saturday.

For Oklahoma, it was a loss to their rival the Texas Longhorns in a game that they were the heavy favorite. All season, Texas had been getting run over by opponents, but against their rivals, Texas stepped up to their best performance of the season en route to a 24-17 win.

Kansas State looked like they were going to knock off one of the top teams in the nation in TCU. Instead, the Wildcats blew a tw0-score lead late in the game and the Horned Frogs pulled off another successful comeback as they maintained their perfect season to date.

Keys to Victory

After his tough first loss of the season, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield should like his chances for a rebound offensive performance heading into this week against the Wildcats. Last week, the Wildcats gave up 52 points and with the legs of Mayfield, he should be able to help the Sooners put up points too.

While Mayfield is going to have to make plays, so is the Oklahoma running game. Kansas State may allow a lot of big plays through the air, but they are one of the best defenses in the nation at stopping the run. The legs of quarterback Baker Mayfield might be able to make it happen, but running back Samaje Perine is going to have break off some big carries of his own.

The Kansas State defense let Trevone Boykin tear up their secondary last week and big plays through the air did them in. This week, they face a dangerous quarterback in Baker Mayfield and can’t let him make the plays that Boykin did to beat them. They have to help the rest of their defense, who did a good job shutting down the run. It’s time for the Wildcat secondary to do their part.

Prediction

Both teams boast quarterbacks that can make plays with their legs, but one team is more sound defensively than the other. Oklahoma is going to test the secondary of the Wildcats and after a tough loss against Texas last week, the Sooner offense is going to come out firing.

Making big plays in the air will allow the Sooners to break off some run plays that the Wildcats are normally good at stopping. Samaje Perine will bust this game open with some touchdown runs late in the game deep in Kansas State territory to put away the game for Oklahoma.

Final Score: No. 19 Oklahoma 45, Kansas State 24
