Thunder’s Kevin Durant is interested in owning an NFL team

As well as pursuing his first NBA championship, Kevin Durant has also expressed his interest in owning an NFL team one day.
Despite his sideline support of the Washington Redskins, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder is well and truly a NBA superstar. Except for LeBron James, he’s still the second best player in the league when fully healthy, and we’ll all be reminded of that this season.
As for his longterm future in world of sports, though, Durant has recently expressed his interest to become a front office figure one day.
Durant said to Matthew Berry of ESPN that not only is he interested in owning an NFL team, but he’s already got his eye set on his hometown Redskins:
"“It’s a passion of mine… I’d definitely love to own a team hopefully one of these years towards the end of my career. So I follow it a lot. My first priority would be the Washington Redskins, even if it was just a small percentage. I just want to get involved. Growing up five minutes away from the stadium and always being a fan, I have a Redskins tattoo on my forearm. So I feel part of the team so much, so to be an owner and all the way entrenched with the team would be cool.”"
The interesting part of Durant’s comment is that he’d love to own a team towards the end of his career. Could KD really become part of the Redskins’ front office while he’s still busy destroying his opponents in the NBA? If that is the case, it would be a lot to manage. However, Durant may have just been referring to when he retires from sports all together, so there’s definitely no timeline to when we can expect him to pursue this dream further.
As he made clear, though, the Redskins have always been important to him. Maybe for a team who are far from contention for the foreseeable future, the competitive spirit of Kevin Durant in the front office could be a welcome addition.
