Florida vs. LSU, 35-28: Full highlights, final score and more
The LSU Tigers battled to stay undefeated in a win over Florida in Death Valley
With Treon Harris making his first start for the Florida Gators after Will Grier’s suspension in the unfriendly confines of Tiger Stadium against the LSU Tigers, there was a possibility that Les Miles’ Tigers could have run away with this one. However, Harris put that thought to rest when he got the scoring underway in the first quarter with a touchdown pass. It wasn’t until the second quarter that Fournette and an energized Brandon Harris got things going for the Tigers offense with three straight touchdowns in the second quarter. Treon Harris got another touchdown pass, but Brandon Harris had an answer to give LSU a 28-14 lead going into the half. The Gators weren’t about to roll over, though.
Florida captured the only two scores of the third quarter with a Kelvin Taylor rushing touchdown and a 72-yard punt return by Antonio Callaway. That evened things up at 28 points apiece heading into the final frame. Miles and the Tigers then unleashed some trickery on the game when, after a 10-play drive seemed it was going to end in a field goal, they ran a fake and kicker Trent Domingue scrambled for a 16-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers ahead.
Florida was able to get three more cracks at driving down the field to tie it up, though, including two big defensive stands against LSU in between each. An unfortunate intentional grounding call ultimately killed the first attempt and Harris couldn’t find his mark on four straight passes on the second, giving LSU the ball with the lead and good field position. That left the Treon Harris having to go 90 yards in a minute and a half. He completed one big pass to get to midfield, but was left with 51 yards to go and only one play left. The Gators tried a heave to the end zone, but it fell incomplete to give the Tigers the hard fought win.
Three Stars
Leonard Fournette proved he’s for real against the best defense that he’s played against all season as the Heisman favorite rushed for 176 yards on 30 carries and scored twice on the ground.
Even in the loss, Florida quarterback Treon Harris was impressive in his first game as Will Grier’s replacement as they wouldn’t have been in it without his performance prior to crunch time. He threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns while importantly not turning the ball over.
Trent Domingue is the kicker for the Tigers and he deserves all his shine. He converted on all of his extra points, sure, but he also scored a crucial fourth quarter touchdown for LSU on a fake field goal.
